The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a statement to clarify a false report circulating on social media that corps members’ bank accounts are being upgraded to accommodate the new national minimum wage of N70,000.
The NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, emphasized that there is no directive from the relevant authority to upgrade corps members’ accounts or pay them the new minimum wage.
According to Megwa, the report is “misleading and absolutely false,” and corps members are advised to ignore any further information from unknown sources. He warned corps members to be cautious of “mischief makers” who are attempting to mislead Nigerians.
The statement clarified that the NYSC has not received any directive from the government regarding the payment of the new minimum wage to corps members. It also cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against issuing unauthorized statements on matters concerning the management of the NYSC.
