NYSC will Begin N77,000 allowance Payment In March – DG
NYSC Corps Members to Receive New Monthly Allowance of N77,000 Starting March 2025

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has announced that corps members will benefit from a new monthly allowance of N77,000, set to take effect in March 2025. This assurance came during an engaging session with corps members at the NYSC Zonal Offices in Wuse and Garki, Abuja, where he reiterated the commitment of the NYSC and the Federal Government towards the welfare of the youths serving in the program.

The increase in allowance, which raises the previous rate from N33,000, follows a review of the nation’s minimum wage – recently established at N70,000 by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024. This new adjustment comes after a prior increase was made in 2019, which raised the allowance to its then-current level in response to changes in the minimum wage that had been set at N30,000.

In an official statement issued by Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for the NYSC, it was reported that the approval for the new allowance was communicated through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta. The move aligns with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

During the interactive session, Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the importance of the well-being of corps members and encouraged them to maintain calmness, dedication, focus, and discipline throughout their service to the nation. “Effective March, you will receive Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. The NYSC maintains thorough records, and I assure you that your payments will be made consistently. The nation and the NYSC deeply appreciate your service,” he stated confidently.

He further praised the vision of the NYSC’s founders, characterizing the scheme as a crucial institution that promotes national unity by introducing graduates to the rich cultural diversity across Nigeria. The DG assured corps members that the NYSC management remains committed to fostering essential values such as patriotism, discipline, leadership, and teamwork among each incoming batch of participants in the program.
