Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that the 10th National Assembly, in collaboration with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has decided to revert to Nigeria’s old national anthem as part of efforts to rebuild the nation.
Akpabio made this statement during the ongoing 2024 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos State. He called on Nigerian lawyers and legal professionals to embrace their roles as agents of positive change within the country.
“We are working diligently to establish a robust legal framework that will support the aspirations of all Nigerians,” Akpabio said. “We strongly believe that any stain on our country can be erased if we stand together in brotherhood.”
Explaining the decision to return to the old national anthem, Akpabio emphasized the importance of national unity. “That is why we revisited the National Anthem, which emphasizes that though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand. We chose to go back because we want to rebuild the future of this country, remembering that despite our different tribes, backgrounds, ethnic groups, and tongues, we are united in brotherhood.”
Reflecting on his political journey, Akpabio said, “I entered politics with a dream to rebuild my state and our nation. With that dream, I transformed Akwa Ibom State, and my people can testify to what became known as an uncommon transformation. Now, together with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we can rebuild Nigeria.”
He concluded by urging those in attendance to contribute to the nation’s development, saying, “If our dream can ignite even a tiny spark of aspiration among those gathered here, it will mark a pivotal moment for Nigeria, and the Renewed Hope program will undoubtedly be a success.”
