Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, has tested positive for coronavirus.
The governor took to his Facebook page to announce his status Monday.
“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate.
I have designated Prof Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully. Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe.” The governor wrote.
The Peoples Democratic Party under makinde held a ‘mega rally’ in the state amidst the emerging threat coronavirus disease outbreak in Nigeria.
No fewer than a thousand persons were present at the PDP rally, which had other governors of the party in attendance including Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State.
Mr. Makinde later apologized for organizing the rally citing that he acted based on the information available to him at that moment.
It is not clear if his cabinet members and associates who were also present at the rally have undergone the testing process yet.
President Buhari on Sunday announced that there will be a lockdown of Abuja capital city, Lagos and Ogun states from 31st March, 2020, as measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
