Pastor David Ibiyeomie Claims Jesus Christ Disapproves of Poverty
Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder of Salvation Ministries, recently made headlines by asserting that Jesus Christ holds a strong aversion to poverty. In a video that began circulating on social media this past Sunday, Ibiyeomie claimed that Jesus did not closely associate with the poor during His time on Earth, a notion he derived from scripture.
During his sermon, Ibiyeomie argued that there is no biblical record of Jesus entering the home of a poor individual, interpreting this as an indication of divine disapproval of poverty. He emphasized that Christ’s death and resurrection were not solely for the purpose of salvation but also aimed at liberating believers from financial hardship.
“There is no record of Jesus visiting any poor person’s house; check your Bible,” Ibiyeomie stated. “This means He dislikes poverty. He visited Lazarus, but they were not poor—they provided Him with food. He also visited Zacchaeus, a wealthy sinner. Can you name one impoverished person whose house Jesus entered? His actions indicate that He disapproves of poverty.”
Ibiyeomie further stated, “While it’s acceptable to come to Christ in a state of poverty, it’s not acceptable to remain there. You should not continue to live in poverty after accepting Christ; it reflects a lack of spiritual understanding.”
The pastor concluded by reinforcing the belief that although one may arrive in a poor condition, being a follower of Christ should lead to financial and spiritual upliftment.
