NAPS Lauds President Tinubu’s Emergency Declaration in Rivers State
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has expressed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State. In a statement released on Thursday in Kaduna and signed by NAPS National President Eshiofune Oghayan, the organization, representing more than 28.1 million Nigerian students, emphasized that this action is essential for re-establishing law and order, enhancing governance, and ensuring the safety of citizens in the state.
“We applaud the decisive intervention by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State. This bold decision is crucial for maintaining peace, stabilizing governance, and restoring security in a region that has faced significant political and institutional challenges,” the statement noted.
NAPS highlighted that President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency is not an arbitrary move, but rather one grounded in the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. They pointed out that Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution empowers the President to declare such a state under specific circumstances.
The association urged residents of Rivers State to remain calm and supportive of the interim administration, emphasizing that the primary goal of this intervention is to facilitate peace and progress. “We pray for a swift restoration of peace and stability in Rivers State,” NAPS concluded in their statement.
