Pastor Adeboye Attributes Nigeria’s Economic Survival to Divine Intervention Amid Fuel Crisis and Naira Devaluation

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has credited prayers and divine intervention for preventing the Nigerian naira from plummeting to an exchange rate of ₦10,000 per dollar.

Speaking during the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye highlighted the country’s financial struggles, attributing them to Nigeria’s dependence on imported petrol despite being a major oil producer.

He lamented the billions spent on non-functional refineries and criticised the inefficiency of previous systems.

Fuel Subsidy Removal and Economic Turmoil

Adeboye weighed in on the removal of fuel subsidies, noting that it angered those who had benefited from the scheme under previous administrations. He linked the subsidy removal to the economic challenges currently facing the nation.

“Before our current President took office, the root of our financial crisis was already clear — the importation of petrol. Despite our oil wealth, we continued to spend billions on dysfunctional refineries,”

he said.

“When the President cancelled the subsidy on petrol imports, those who profited from it retaliated by creating more problems,”

Adeboye added.

A Call for Divine Help

Reflecting on the naira’s devaluation, Adeboye shared that he resorted to prayer and thanked others who joined him.

“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now. This shows how much we need prayers,”

he emphasised.

He concluded by calling for divine help to address Nigeria’s financial woes, adding that human solutions alone cannot resolve the crisis.

“Ultimately, we need divine help, not just human intervention,”

Adeboye stressed.

The Bigger Picture

Adeboye also underscored that Nigeria’s economic challenges are longstanding and not solely the responsibility of the current administration. He reiterated the need for sustainable policies and collective prayers to restore the nation’s fortunes.
