Lagos Police Arrest Child Rapist Accused of Raping a 14 year old in Alakuko
The Lagos State Police Command on Friday arrested a suspect accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in Alakuko, Lagos. The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest during a phone interview, stating that an investigation is ongoing.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, in a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), also announced the arrest, noting that it is working closely with the police on the case. The agency assured the public that the survivor is receiving comprehensive medical care.
“We appreciate everyone who brought the tragic incident of child sexual abuse in Alakuko to our attention. The survivor is receiving medical care, and the suspect is in police custody. More details to follow,” the statement read.
The incident came to public attention after an X.com user, @Rhwaley, shared disturbing videos of the victim, showing her in distress with her jeans stained with blood. The user also alleged that when the victim’s family confronted the landlord, he dismissed their concerns, saying, “Nothing will happen.”
Responding to the post, Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, assured the public that no one is helpless in this matter. He advised the family to contact the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team for assistance.
The investigation continues as authorities work to bring justice to the young girl.
