To commemorate Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s legacy, the Senate announced its intention to send a delegation to extend condolences to both his family and the residents of Anambra State. Additionally, plans were unveiled to honor him posthumously by naming a hall within the Senate in his remembrance.
Senators observed a moment of silence for Ubah, who played a crucial role in both the 9th and 10th National Assemblies, notably serving as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream. Born on September 3, 1971, Ubah was recognized for his grassroots engagement and passion for public service.
In attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside Ubah’s wife, children, and other family members. Former Anambra Governor and current Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige, along with Mrs. Nnoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, also participated in the session.
Vice President Shettima praised Ubah’s philanthropic spirit, calling him a unifying figure who transcended political and ethnic divides. He recounted a generous act from Ubah during his tenure as Governor of Borno State, where Ubah donated ₦50 million to support victims of a Boko Haram crisis. “The late Senator Ubah was indeed one of the most remarkable members of the 9th Senate. His political acumen and grassroots ties distinguished him, and his boundless generosity will leave a lasting impression,” Shettima remarked.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio characterized Ubah as an accomplished businessman, a dedicated community advocate, and a model public servant. “Senator Ubah’s passing is a profound loss for Anambra, Nnewi, and indeed all of Nigeria. His work with the South East Development Commission demonstrated his commitment to uplifting his region,” Akpabio stated.
Both Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele also expressed their respect for Ubah. Jibrin described him as a dedicated patriot and philanthropist, while Bamidele acknowledged his charm and unwavering commitment to the APC’s objectives.
