Minister Endorses Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governorship Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, has bolstered the conversation surrounding Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as a potential candidate for the Governorship of Lagos State.

Discussions regarding Seyi taking over from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu began circulating late last year following an endorsement from the socio-political group Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST). In a recent interview with Seun Okinbaloye, Olawande praised Seyi as a leader and mentor, emphasizing that he possesses the qualifications necessary to govern Lagos State.

Olawande strongly asserted that Seyi is not too young for the gubernatorial role, stating, “He is a well-trained young man who has empowered numerous young Nigerians, even before his father ascended to the presidency.” He further advocated for Seyi’s readiness for the position, underscoring his track record of supporting the youth.

Despite the growing endorsements, Olawande clarified that Seyi is not actively orchestrating his own campaign for the governorship. He remarked, “Seyi is not the one engineering the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State.”

The minister reflected on public perceptions of individuals in prominent positions, saying, “Everyone has the potential to achieve their aspirations. When you are in the public eye, people tend to share a variety of opinions about you.”

Since the discussions regarding his candidacy began in 2024, Seyi Tinubu has remained noncommittal, neither confirming nor denying any political ambitions for the 2027 general election.
