President Bola Tinubu Submits Revised Nominees for North West Development Commission and Appoints Chair of South East Development Commission

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a revised list of nominees for the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for approval. The announcement was made in a statement on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

In an earlier nomination sent to the Senate in late September 2024, President Tinubu had proposed Ambassador Haruna Ginsau as the chairman of the NWDC board, along with Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura and Hon. Abdulkadir Usman as members. However, the modified list replaces these nominees with Alh. Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi as the chairman and introduces Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi as new board members. Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji will continue to serve as the managing director and chief executive officer.

The revised list still includes Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe, Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, and Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil, along with Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, and Aminu Suleiman. Notably, following the Senate’s modification of the NWDC establishment act to incorporate representatives from all geo-political zones, President Tinubu has included the following individuals to represent the six zones: Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu, Macdonalds Michael Uyi, Yemi Ola, and Hon. Babatunde Dada.

Additionally, President Tinubu has nominated Hon. Emeka Atuma as the chairman and Hon. Mark C. Okoye as the managing director and CEO of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), pending Senate confirmation. The board for the SEDC will also feature Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Hon. Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu Ph.D, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo. The new nominees also include Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.

In addition to these nominations, Prince Obinna Obiekweihe has been proposed for the role of Executive Director (Projects), Sen. Anthony O. Agbo for Executive Director of Finance and Administration, and Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja for Executive Director (Corporate Services).

President Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering regional development and expressed confidence that the newly appointed members will leverage their extensive experience and skills to effectively fulfill the objectives of both commissions and drive growth in their respective regions.
