Professor Edoba Omoregie Appointed as New Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin
Benin, Nigeria – The University of Benin has appointed Professor Edoba Omoregie, an esteemed expert in constitutional law and governance, as its new Vice-Chancellor. The announcement was made on Friday by Professor Shaibu Umaru, the Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, during an event held in Benin.
Professor Omoregie was chosen from a competitive pool of 27 applicants, marking him as the 11th Vice-Chancellor in the university’s history. He is set to succeed the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lillian Salami, whose term concludes on December 1.
A native of Benin, Professor Omoregie was born on April 5, 1969, and has a long-standing affiliation with the University of Benin, having completed his undergraduate and graduate studies there. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992, and in 2021, he was honored with the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, reflecting his prominence in the legal field.
As he prepares to assume his new role, expectations are high for Professor Omoregie to continue advancing the university’s mission and objectives.
