Ice Prince Opens Up About Overcoming Childhood Losses and Financial Struggles

Nigerian rapper Panshak Zamani, better known as Ice Prince, has shared the hardships he encountered growing up without parental support and how these experiences influenced his life and career. During a recent appearance on the Listen podcast, Ice Prince disclosed that he lost his father when he was just 11 years old, and his mother passed away when he was around 21.

These early losses compelled him to take on various low-paying jobs to support himself while attending school, but financial obstacles ultimately hindered his ability to pursue higher education. “I don’t have a mother or father. I’m an only son. That’s quite tough,” he expressed.

Reflecting on the timeline of his losses, Ice Prince said, “I was eleven when my dad died. My mum left us when I was about 21 or 22. I had a large family relying on me.” He emphasized the absence of a financial safety net during his upbringing, stating, “I have no uncle, aunt, godfather, or godmother to lean on. It has been nothing but God helping me through.”

As he looks back on his journey, Ice Prince hopes to motivate others through his story. “I want people to see my life and think if I can make it, then no one has a valid excuse for failure,” he remarked. He also recounted his educational struggles, sharing that financial difficulties led to him missing out on a university admission. “I would spend at least three weeks at home every term because of school fees,” he said, lamenting how a mere 20,000 Naira ($50) prevented him from completing his enrollment. “I had about two weeks to gather that money but couldn’t manage to raise it on time, so I lost that admission.”
