“Wike should leave Fubara alone,” NRM Chairman, Isaac Udeh stated
Abuja, Nigeria – The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has condemned the ongoing conflict between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, over control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The NRM described Wike’s actions as unfair and called for an end to the feud.
Isaac Udeh, the National Chairman of the NRM, expressed his concerns during an interview in Abuja on Sunday. He voiced disappointment over the political rivalry between Wike and his former protégé, Governor Fubara, attributing the ongoing crisis in Rivers State to their deteriorating relationship.
Udeh’s comments come just days after Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, publicly called for Wike’s expulsion from the PDP. In an open letter to the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, Clark urged the PDP leadership to take decisive action against Wike to maintain the party’s credibility as a strong opposition force.
During the interview, Udeh urged Wike to step back and allow Governor Fubara to lead the PDP in Rivers State. He argued that when Wike was governor, his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, did not interfere with his control of the party, despite holding a ministerial position at the time.
“Wike should leave Fubara alone,” Udeh stated. “When Wike was the governor and the leader of the party in Rivers State, his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, was not in charge of the party. Wike was, due to his position as a sitting governor. Now that his tenure as governor is over, he cannot continue to assert himself as the party leader in the state. This is abnormal and unacceptable.”
Udeh emphasized that Governor Fubara has shown strong leadership and is working in the best interests of the people of Rivers State. He expressed the NRM’s support for Fubara, commending his performance and urging Wike to focus on his duties as the Minister of the FCT.
“When Amaechi was the Minister of Transport, he focused on his responsibilities in Abuja without interfering with Wike’s governance in Rivers State,” Udeh noted. “Why should Wike now be disturbing Fubara? I want to use this opportunity to call on the people of Rivers to stand in full support of their young and vibrant Governor Fubara, so that he can continue to move the state forward.”
