Zambia Arrests Two Men in Plot Allegedly Involving Witchcraft Against President
Police in Zambia have detained two individuals for allegedly attempting to inflict harm on the country’s president using witchcraft. The arrested suspects are Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, a 42-year-old from Mozambique, and Leonard Phiri, a 43-year-old village chief from Zambia. The arrests occurred in Lusaka, the nation’s capital, as confirmed by a police statement released on Friday.
According to officials, the suspects were found in possession of various charms, including a live chameleon, and are reported to be practicing witch doctors. Their purported objective was to employ these charms to target President Hakainde Hichilema.
Authorities claim the duo was contracted by the brother of an opposition Member of Parliament currently facing charges of robbery, attempted murder, and evading law enforcement. The two men are now facing charges of animal cruelty and are set to appear in court shortly, as per the police statement.
