Kaduna, Nigeria – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Monday that recent airstrikes by its fighter jets eliminated numerous terrorists who had gathered to obstruct repair work on the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna power transmission line.

This line, critical for electricity supply to the northern region, was destroyed by terrorist activities three weeks ago, leaving 17 northern states in darkness.

Following the blackout, President Bola Tinubu directed the military to provide security support for engineers working to restore power infrastructure. In line with this directive, the NAF launched a coordinated operation to neutralize threats against the repair teams.

Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, detailed the mission in a statement. He explained that Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations confirmed the presence of terrorist groups planning to disrupt repairs. Upon verifying the threat, the NAF deployed fighter jets for a series of airstrikes, targeting terrorist positions in the Alawa Forest of Niger State’s Shiroro Local Government Area on November 1.

“In a coordinated mission to support power restoration efforts in Kaduna and other northwestern states, the NAF executed a series of air interdiction operations targeting terrorist positions located deep within the Alawa Forest. This mission aligns with ongoing efforts to secure power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted progress in restoring electricity to affected areas,” said Akinboyewa.

He added that the airstrikes were conducted with precision, neutralizing numerous terrorists and their logistical assets, ensuring they could not interfere with the power restoration efforts.

The Air Force has since intensified its surveillance and patrols along key power transmission routes from Shiroro Lake to Damba, maintaining air dominance to prevent further disruptions.

“These sustained operations reflect NAF’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to protect critical infrastructure and restore essential services swiftly and safely for Kaduna and neighboring states,” Akinboyewa said.
