Akure, Nigeria – Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced the implementation of a N73,000 minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

This new wage surpasses the federal government’s approved N70,000, reflecting the state’s commitment to its workforce.

Governor Aiyedatiwa made the announcement during the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial campaign flag-off for the Ondo Central Senatorial District in Ondo City, ahead of the November 16 election.

Addressing a large gathering of party supporters, Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of continuity in governance, urging voters to support the APC in the upcoming election. “On November 16, I urge everyone here and those who are not present to convert your support into votes for the APC to ensure the continuation of our significant progress in the state,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also highlighted his administration’s achievements over the last 10 months, including major projects initiated during his tenure, as well as those started by the late governor. He mentioned key developments in agriculture, infrastructure, and healthcare. According to him, the state has cleared over a billion naira for land clearing and launched rural road construction projects to boost agricultural productivity.

In a bid to address the brain drain in the health sector, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced salary and allowance increases for doctors, which has helped reduce the “Japa” syndrome—the emigration of professionals to other countries for better opportunities. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving security, education, and youth empowerment.

Engr. Ade Adetimehin, the APC State Chairman, also spoke at the event, urging voters to ensure that the APC remains in power, while emphasizing Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to infrastructural development.

The Director-General of the campaign, Hon. Abiola Makinde, a member of the House of Representatives for Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, praised the governor as a proven leader, calling for grassroots mobilization ahead of the election.

Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, Ondo’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, also lauded Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, highlighting his administration’s efforts in road construction, prompt payment of salaries, and funding WAEC fees for public school students.

In addition, Chief Olusola Oke, a former APC governorship aspirant, called on party members to intensify efforts at the grassroots level to secure votes, stressing the importance of every member’s active participation.

Hon. Kolade Akinjo, a former PDP gubernatorial aspirant who recently defected to the APC, cited Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership style and developmental achievements as key reasons for his decision to join the party.
