'Akwa Ibom Ayaya' Singer, Mish Dies in Abuja

Popular Nigerian singer, Michael Aniekeme Meshach, also known as Mish, has reportedly died, sources close to his family have revealed.

The late singer was said to have died in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, according to reports.

Mish gained prominence in 2011 with his song, ‘Akwa Ibom Ayaya’, which was a reflection of the achievements of the then administration of Obong Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom state.

Mish, a native of Obot Okoh Mbiaobong in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, became a viral sensation with the hit track, ‘Akwa Ibom Ayaya,’ which later became an anthem for indigenes of Akwa Ibom state.

Mish’s Akwa Ibom Ayaya Song Was A Viral Hit

Released at a time the Akwa Ibom state’s slogan of the Godswill Akpabio’s administration was also tagged “Akwa Ibom Ayaya,” the track became an unofficial state anthem of the Annang and Ibibio people of the oil-rich South Eastern state.

As the hit track in his first album, REPLAY, the song also resonated with Nigerians from other tribes, as it showcased the rich cultural etiquettes of the Annang-Ibibio people, especially their rich and tasty delicacies.

It would also bring Mish, as a budding artiste to limelight, endearing him to his state government as well as his people. The song’s lyrics spelt the beauty of Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom state, the then newly commissioned airport in the state and the desire of the Annang-Ibibio people to strive for excellence.

Mish, however, went off the radar after that hit track. Not much was heard of him until his sudden demise.

Mish’s Akwa Ibom AYAYA Inspired the AYAYA Concert with Okon Lagos

On February 14, 2013, Popular Nollywood Actor and Comedian, Ime Bishop Umoh, also known as Okon Lagos organized the Ayaya Concert at the Altec Azcum Event Centre in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

The event was inspired by the virality of Mish’s hit track “Akwa Ibom Ayaya” and was attended by many lovers of the song.

Mish also released other hit tracks like Go and Marry, Every Woman is Beautiful, Love in Sharing and more.

Another great song by Mish was released 6 years ago and titled “Made in Naija”.
