Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Takes Action Against Flagrant Disobedience to Environmental Laws
The Anambra State Government, under Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA), has taken decisive action by sealing several hotels and business premises to environmental concerns and enforce compliance.
Led by the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Celestine Anere, the enforcement team cited the persistent disregard for environmental laws by certain operators in the state’s hospitality and leisure sectors.
The decision to seal these establishments stemmed from a growing public outcry regarding the deteriorating environmental conditions in their vicinity. Anere emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the detrimental impact of environmental negligence on the local ecosystem.
Addressing the issue, Anere stated, “More enforcement teams have been created to avail residents the opportunity to report any environmental issues around their communities.”
He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a clean, green, and healthy environment, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards environmental pollution.
Most of the affected businesses, primarily located in Awka and its environs, received weeks of court notices from the agency and the Ministry of Environment before the sealing of their premises.
This proactive measure underscores the government’s dedication to upholding environmental regulations and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
The sealing of these establishments marks a significant step towards promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly environment in Anambra State.
