Anthony Joshua Vs Daniel Dubois Immediate Rematch Dismissed
Frank Warren Shuts Down Immediate Rematch Talks Between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua

Promoter Frank Warren has dismissed the likelihood of an immediate rematch between IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua, despite earlier expectations for a sequel following their September encounter.

Warren has indicated that they are now looking at alternative opponents for Dubois’ next fight. Dubois, known as ‘Triple D,’ was anticipated to face Anthony Joshua again after stopping him in the fifth round of their first bout. However, shortly after the fight, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn expressed optimism about a rematch, stating that negotiations were moving forward positively. Recently, though, discussions have hit a snag due to conflicting recovery timelines for both fighters.

Hearn reported that Anthony Joshua is still dealing with minor injuries sustained during their initial meeting and will require additional time to recuperate. In the meantime, Dubois is aiming for a return to the ring on February 22, a timeline Hearn believes is too soon for Joshua to be fully fit and competitive.

While Hearn proposed the idea of delaying the fight to a later date, Warren is eager for Dubois to remain active in the ring and has decided to pivot away from rematch talks for the time being.

“I don’t see that happening next,” Warren said in an interview with BoxNation when discussing the potential rematch. “We are considering various options at the moment and will be making a decision soon. I hoped to reach an agreement quickly, but this time it just won’t happen. We must concentrate on Dubois and keep him on track for February 22.”

Warren emphasized that Dubois remains his primary focus, stating, “With all due respect, we’re in the Daniel Dubois business. He’s my priority, and he wants to fight on that date.”

This development aligns with the recent statement from IBF President Daryl Peoples, confirming that Dubois is eligible to make an optional title defense against any ranked contender before April 22. This keeps the door open for potential domestic matchups, including a possible bout against Fabio Wardley.
