Army Destroys 22 Lakurawa Camps, Neutralizes Sect Members in Sokoto

Addressing the troops, he urged them to ensure the total elimination of the Lakurawa sect while adhering to the rules of engagement. He also stressed the importance of protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.

Sokoto, Nigeria – Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dismantled 22 camps belonging to the Lakurawa sect and neutralized several of their members during a military operation in Sokoto State. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered during the offensive.

This development was disclosed by Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, Acting General Commanding Officer of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, while addressing the Special Brigade deployed to tackle the Lakurawa sect in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

According to Brigadier General Ajose, the precursor operations carried out by troops of the 8 Division focused on forested areas and enclaves in locations including Rumji Dutse East of Sarma, Tsauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Magara Forest, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kadidda, Kolo, and Dancha villages. These areas span across Illela, Tangaza, and Binji Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

The operation resulted in the destruction of 22 Lakurawa camps, the neutralization of several sect members, and the recovery of four rifles, 409 PKT 7.62mm NATO rounds, and 94 7.62mm special rounds of ammunition.

Brigadier General Ajose stated that the deployment of the Special Brigade would bolster the gains made under the ongoing Operation FOREST SANITY III, tagged “Chase Lakurawas Out.” He emphasized that the deployment aims to frustrate the activities of bandits and restore normalcy to the affected communities in Sokoto, Kebbi, and the North-West region at large.

Addressing the troops, he urged them to ensure the total elimination of the Lakurawa sect while adhering to the rules of engagement. He also stressed the importance of protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.

“You were selected and trained for this mission, and Nigerians are counting on your professionalism and ability to eliminate the Lakurawa and other bandits terrorizing our communities,” he said.

The military pledged continued efforts to secure the region and called on citizens to support ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace.
