In a heartfelt statement shared on the Vatican’s Telegram channel, Cardinal Kevin Farrell expressed his sorrow, saying, “Dearest brothers and sisters, it is with deep sorrow that I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. This morning at 7:35 AM (0535 GMT), the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father.”

The beloved pontiff had devoted his life to the service of the Lord and the Catholic Church, leaving a profound impact on millions worldwide. His passing comes shortly after he delighted the faithful gathered in the Vatican, where he blessed the crowd, proclaiming “Happy Easter” despite recent health struggles, including a serious bout of pneumonia that nearly claimed his life twice earlier this year.

Following a 38-day hospitalization, Pope Francis was discharged on March 23. His Easter Sunday appearance was characterized by heartfelt messages, including a traditional “Urbi et Orbi” blessing in which he championed the ideals of freedom of thought and tolerance.

The Vatican community and global faithful mourn the loss of a leader who inspired many with his messages of compassion and hope.
