Abuja, Nigeria – Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that self-proclaimed whistleblower Isaac Tamunobifiri, also known as PIDOM, be remanded in Kuje correctional facility.
PIDOM was arraigned on Tuesday on nine counts, including alleged money laundering, cybercrime, and disseminating classified secret documents.
The charges against PIDOM include mobilizing support to unduly compel the government to act or abstain from certain acts through the #Endbadgovernance protest, false money-laundering allegations against President Bola Tinubu, and unlawfully obtaining, retaining, and disseminating classified secret documents.
PIDOM pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court adjourned to September 23 for ruling on his bail application.
Police Reveal Accomplices of PIDOM
The police have identified investigative journalist David Hundeyin and Michael Alade as accomplices of PIDOM. Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force spokesperson, revealed that PIDOM’s arrest was prompted by a petition filed by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Adejobi alleged that PIDOM resisted arrest, destroyed his phone, and flushed it down the toilet to conceal evidence. Adejobi further alleged that PIDOM had unauthorized access to confidential police documents and subsequently leaked sensitive information, including directives from the Office of the Inspector General of Police, to the public.
The police spokesman said PIDOM’s arrest was to protect national security and maintain public order. He assured that the police would do the needful to ensure everyone involved in such crimes would be brought to book after thorough interrogation and investigation.
