The ruling is seen as a significant legal blow to Abure and his supporters, further intensifying the internal power tussle within the Labour Party.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Supreme Court has nullified the recognition of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, effectively sacking him from the position.
In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel, the apex court faulted the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja which had upheld Abure’s position as chairman of the party. The Supreme Court ruled that the appellate court overstepped its jurisdiction by making a pronouncement on a matter relating to party leadership.
The justices emphasized that issues concerning the internal leadership structure of political parties fall outside the purview of judicial intervention, as they are considered internal affairs.
The court allowed an appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another appellant, declaring it to have merit. In contrast, it struck out a cross-appeal brought forward by Abure’s faction within the party, describing it as lacking merit.

The ruling is seen as a significant legal blow to Abure and his supporters, further intensifying the internal power tussle within the Labour Party.
