Awka, Nigeria – The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old man, Friday Emenike, also known as “Ekpo,” for allegedly renting firearms to criminals for illegal activities.
The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, who stated that Emenike, a native of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was taken into custody after police operatives acted on intelligence.
According to Ikenga, the suspect confessed to the crime during the investigation. He added that the case would be charged to court upon the completion of the inquiry.

The arrest followed an earlier raid on December 7, 2024, conducted by operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu Ukwu. Acting on credible intelligence, the police targeted a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Okechukwu Chinwuko, 27, from Umunaga Village, and Ezenwa Chinedu, 22, from Umuneri Village.
During the operation, the police recovered one pump-action gun, three live cartridges, a cutlass, suspected hard drugs, and criminal charms. Additionally, two female victims who had allegedly been sexually assaulted by the suspects were rescued.
During further interrogation, the two suspects revealed that the firearms used for their operations were rented from Emenike, prompting the police to take swift action to apprehend him.
The police assured the public that Emenike and the other suspects would be prosecuted after the investigation concludes.
