At least three people have been killed and several others injured after bandits invaded a market in Tsafe town, headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State on Sunday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits stormed the market around 11AM and opened fire on the marketers, causing chaos and panic.
The Nigerian Police in Zamfara State have confirmed the attack, with spokesperson ASP Yazid Abubakar stating that the joint military and police forces were deployed to the scene to engage the bandits. Normalcy has since been restored to the area.
While the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, a resident of Tsafe town, Abubakar Tsafe, reported that at least three people were killed and several others sustained gunshot injuries.
The bandits were reportedly forced to retreat to the forest after troops of Operation Hadarin Daji deployed to Tsafe engaged them in a gun duel.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks in the region, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State.
