AIG Orders Investigation into Corruption and Unprofessional Conduct

Five police officers attached to the Zone 6 police headquarters in Cross River have been taken into custody for allegedly abducting and extorting N3 million from a victim.

According to a press statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson Okpabi, the officers were accused of corrupt practices and unprofessional conduct while on patrol along the Ikom-Calabar highway.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has ordered a high-powered investigation into the matter to uncover the facts and ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken.

The officers have been detained and an investigation is underway, with the AIG vowing to ensure that erring officers face disciplinary action, including orderly trial and possible prosecution.

The outcome of the investigation and disciplinary measures will be made public in due course, according to Okpabi.
