Tosin Adedayo, Chairman of Emure Local Government, confirmed the incident and said a joint security team, including soldiers and police officers, had been deployed to pursue the gunmen
Ekiti, Nigeria – Gunmen on Saturday abducted three travelers in Emure, Ekiti State, while also killing Taiwo Oluwole, the husband of one of the captives.
The incident, which occurred around 5:30 PM near Oyimo River along the Emure-Eporo road, is the latest in a series of kidnappings in the area.
Sources indicate that the gunmen ambushed the victims’ vehicle, a Toyota Camry, as they were returning to Akure from a family event in Emure.
According to a security source who requested anonymity, Oluwole was fatally shot as the car came under heavy gunfire. His wife and two other occupants of the vehicle were subsequently kidnapped and taken into the nearby bush. “Taiwo Oluwole was killed instantly when their car was attacked. His body has been deposited at the Emure Ekiti General Hospital,” the source said.
This spot has seen previous abductions, including the kidnapping of pupils from the Apostolic Faith Children School in January and the abduction of Mrs. Atinuke Adanikin, the wife of a retiree, on July 13.
A resident of Emure, identified as Akin, confirmed the incident, adding that the kidnappers had not yet made contact with the victim’s family. “The late Taiwo was driving his Toyota Camry when they came under fire. The kidnappers then took the family through the forest in the Eporo area,” Akin said.
Tosin Adedayo, Chairman of Emure Local Government, confirmed the incident and said a joint security team, including soldiers and police officers, had been deployed to pursue the gunmen. “I am aware and have been actively involved in the rescue mission. We are confident that our people will be freed,” Adedayo stated.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, were unsuccessful. Emure shares a border with Supare, a community in Ondo State, raising concerns about cross-border criminal activities in the region.
