In a tragic incident in Benue State, gunmen suspected to be bandits have claimed the life of a commander of the agro ranger unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The deceased, identified as Mike Ode, fell victim to the attack which occurred in Shaapera community, Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.
According to Nicholas Ode, the uncle of the deceased, the confrontation with the herdsmen resulted in the death of his brother during a gun duel. Despite the NSCDC officers managing to neutralize up to 10 of the bandits, Mike Ode lost his life in the line of duty.
Confirming the incident, NSCDC Command Public Relations Officer, Mike Ejelikwu, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that the command remains committed to its constitutional duty of providing security for all law-abiding citizens. Ejelikwu also emphasized the heavy casualties inflicted upon the bandits during the encounter.
The NSCDC operates a specialized squad known as the Agro Rangers, tasked with safeguarding agro-allied investments across various localities in the state. While the loss of the commander is deeply felt, the command maintains its resolve to ensure the safety and security of the populace.
