In a shocking incident, a 49-year-old man, Yusuf Umar, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for attempting to sell his 5-year-old daughter for N1.5 million.
The suspect, a staff of the Warji Local Government Council, was apprehended in a hotel in Bauchi after arranging to hand over the child to an undercover police detective.
According to the police report, Umar had deceived his estranged wife by claiming he would take their daughter to his sister in Bauchi town, but instead, had planned to sell her to an unknown person.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, Auwal Mohammed, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect was caught in the act at a hotel in Bauchi.
In a related development, four members of a professional hunters’ group were also arrested for their involvement in criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. They were accused of torturing a young man, Jacob Ayuba, to death on allegations that he stole N150,000.
The police are investigating both cases and have vowed to ensure that justice is served. The arrests have sparked outrage and concern over the safety and well-being of children in the state.
