The University of Nigeria (UNN) is reeling in shock after the discovery of a lifeless body of a 100-level student, Favour Okenyi, in a drainage channel near Akanu Ibiam Stadium on Friday.
Okenyi, a Medical Laboratory Science student, was last seen attending a practical Chemistry class on Tuesday and failed to return. Her decomposing remains were found with some vital organs allegedly missing, sparking suspicions of ritual killing.
The university management has expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident and is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
“We implore anyone with useful information to aid in the investigation to come forward,” said UNN spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku.
A security staff member, who spoke anonymously, suggested that the death may be linked to ritual killers, citing the missing vital organs and the possibility that the body was kept in the drainage before the rainfall that flooded it.
The university community is in mourning, and the incident has raised concerns about student safety and the potential presence of ritual killers in the area.
