Historic Milestone: Dangote Refinery Prepares for First Petrol Loading
The Dangote Refinery has announced that the first set of trucks is ready to load Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, at its facility. This milestone marks the first time in years that locally produced petrol will be loaded in Nigeria.
The refinery made the announcement on its official Twitter handle, @DangoteGroup, accompanied by a video evidence of the trucks awaiting loading. The company’s statement read: “HAPPENING NOW: First set of trucks set for loading of PMS at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.” The refinery further added that Nigerian National Petroleum Company had begun loading of Premium motor spirit (PMS)
It is worth noting that Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had earlier confirmed that over 300 trucks had arrived at the Dangote Refinery to load petrol. The development has been met with excitement as it is expected to boost the country’s fuel supply and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
However, some critics had earlier accused NNPCL of frustrating the Dangote refinery’s operations. In response, NNPCL’s Executive Vice President (Downstream), Dapo Segun, clarified that the company has been working closely with the Dangote refinery to ensure its success. Segun emphasized that business transactions are guided by terms and conditions, and that delays in crude supply are normal when these conditions are not met.
The development is a significant step towards achieving Nigeria’s goal of self-sufficiency in petroleum production. As the country continues to navigate its energy landscape, the successful operation of the Dangote refinery is expected to have a positive impact on the economy and fuel availability for consumers.
