BREAKING: DSS Arrests Journalist Over Alleged Impeachment Report on Akpabio

Abuja, Nigeria – The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested journalist Ulaeto Edna of OrderPaper following her report on alleged impeachment moves against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The arrest occurred during a raid on her residence on Friday morning.

According to a statement by OrderPaper’s management, masked DSS operatives stormed Ulaeto’s home, mistreating her before forcibly taking her to an undisclosed location. The raid is said to have taken place after OrderPaper published a controversial report claiming that the DSS had taken over the National Assembly complex to prevent an impeachment attempt against Akpabio and other top officials.

Despite OrderPaper issuing a retraction and public apology for the error, Ulaeto’s arrest proceeded. The publication has condemned the action as a violation of press freedom and human rights.

The statement from OrderPaper described the arrest as violent, stating that Ulaeto, who was in her nightwear at the time, was forcefully removed from her home. Neighbors who attempted to intervene or document the incident were allegedly threatened by the DSS agents, with some being forced to delete photos and videos of the raid.

The publication also claimed that Ulaeto’s phone had been unlawfully tracked prior to the arrest.

OrderPaper has called on civil society organizations and the international community to demand Ulaeto’s immediate release, denouncing the DSS action as an assault on free speech and media independence.
