In a shocking incident, a dynamite explosion rocked the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, in the early hours of Monday. The attack occurred around 1am, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants allegedly threw dynamite substances into the building, shattering windows and doors, and destroying other property belonging to the party. The ceiling and fittings were also damaged, causing widespread damage to the building.

The incident has been met with shock and concern among party officials and members, who are still trying to come to terms with the scale of destruction. A party official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as “politically-motivated” and called on the police to investigate and apprehend the culprits.

The official stated that the APP is a growing political party in the state and that the attack is a clear indication that some individuals are trying to intimidate and disrupt the party’s activities. “We call on the police to investigate this matter and bring those responsible to justice,” he said.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, has promised to look into the matter and provide more information to the public. The police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The incident has raised concerns about the level of political violence and intimidation in the state, particularly in the wake of rumors that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is planning to defect from his party to join the APP. The governor’s alleged plans have sparked speculation that he is seeking to join forces with his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, who is reportedly seeking to take control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The APP has been growing rapidly in popularity in recent months, and some observers believe that this attack may be an attempt by rival parties or factions to disrupt its growth and undermine its influence in the state.
