The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 50 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud in Kwara State. Among those arrested are 48 students of the prestigious Kwara State University (KWASU), along with two others.
The arrests, which took place on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, followed extensive surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts by EFCC operatives. The suspects were nabbed at various undisclosed locations believed to be their hideouts.
During the operation, authorities seized a cache of incriminating evidence, including nine luxury cars, twenty-four laptops, and an assortment of mobile phones. These items are suspected to have been used in the commission of cybercrimes.
According to EFCC officials, the apprehended individuals will undergo thorough investigations, and upon completion, they will be brought before the court to face charges related to their alleged involvement in internet-related offences.
The EFCC remains committed to combating cybercrime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice, regardless of their affiliations or backgrounds.
