The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action against six senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over allegations of a whopping N6bn fraud.
The officers, currently under interrogation at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, were reportedly handed over to the commission by the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi.
While precise details of the probe remain elusive, reliable sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, had previously penned a letter to the NSCDC CG, requesting the release of the officers for questioning.
According to insiders, the EFCC is delving into suspected fraudulent activities amounting to over N6bn allegedly perpetrated by the senior NSCDC officers. However, it’s important to note that the NSCDC CG himself is not under investigation or custody.
Confirming the development, another source clarified, “The EFCC did not arrest the NSCDC CG, neither is he being probed. We only have six senior NSCDC officers in our custody, and they’re being probed over alleged N6bn fraud.”
Efforts to reach the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, for comment were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered. Similarly, when approached for a statement, the NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, claimed to be unaware of the situation.
As investigations unfold, the nation awaits further updates on this developing story.
