Enugu, Nigeria – Former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga, has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Edeoga, a former federal lawmaker and commissioner under the PDP, announced his defection on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Enugu. He cited Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership style as a key motivation for his return.
“I am impressed by Governor Mbah’s visionary, disruptive, and transformative leadership, which has inspired me to return to the PDP,” Edeoga stated.
Acknowledging that his move might not sit well with some political stakeholders, he underscored the importance of unity within the party ahead of future elections.
“I know that my decision to return to the PDP may not be appreciated by some, but I believe it is time for us to unite as a family and form a formidable front,” he added.
Welcoming him back into the fold, the Enugu State PDP Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, described Edeoga’s return as a validation of Governor Mbah’s “audacious leadership.”
“We are excited to have Edeoga back in the PDP, and we are confident that more former members who left will soon return,” Chukwunwike said.
Similarly, the Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Mr. Obiora Obegu, hailed the defection as a positive development for the party.
“With Edeoga’s return, the PDP will become stronger and more united, free from distractions and rancour,” Obegu noted.
Edeoga was accompanied by several notable members of the Labour Party, who also declared their allegiance to the PDP at the event held at the party’s state secretariat in GRA, Enugu.
