explosion rock Rivers LGAs as Fubara’s chairmen resume

Political unrest in Rivers State escalated on Monday amid a series of explosions and protests that affected multiple local government areas. The turmoil follows an order from Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, mandating the unsealing of the secretariats for all 23 LGs and the immediate withdrawal of police officers who have been stationed at the councils since July.

In a troubling development, the secretariat of the Eleme Local Government Area is currently ablaze, with reports indicating that buildings and vehicles have been set on fire following an explosion from a device believed to be dynamite.

Meanwhile, in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, demonstrators stormed the council headquarters in Omoku, effectively preventing the newly sworn-in chairman from taking office.

More updates on the situation are expected soon.
