Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, has appealed to residents of Abuja not to participate in the proposed protest against economic hardship, slated to take place in the city.
The protest, organized by unnamed groups, aims to draw attention to the economic challenges facing the nation.
CP Igweh made the plea during a press conference where he paraded the mastermind of the armed robbery gang that killed retired Brigadier General Uwen Harold Udokwerre in Abuja on June 22, 2024.
He emphasized the need to prevent the destruction of newly installed infrastructure in the city, courtesy of the FCT administration and President Bola Tinubu.
The police chief expressed concern about the potential loss of lives and property, citing the sacrifices made by the police to ensure the safety of residents. He urged the public to appreciate the efforts of the police and not join the protest.
In a related development, the police have arrested the organizer of the robbery and kidnapping of the retired general, Alhaji Ashiru, who was previously arrested and jailed for a similar crime. The FCT police also recovered the general’s gun, wristwatch, and his wife’s jewelry.
Additionally, another armed robbery and kidnapping group was paraded, and a truck loaded with stolen materials was displayed.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the FCT police’s dedication to maintaining the safety and security of residents.
