In the same event, Wike also disclosed his decision to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of certain plots of land previously allocated to German construction company, Julius Berger, in the Katampe area.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to individuals begging on the streets of Abuja, giving them until October 27, 2024, to vacate the roads or face arrest.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced the ultimatum on Monday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of access roads to the newly established Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District.
Wike expressed concern over the growing number of people begging on the streets, describing it as a security risk for the nation’s capital. “The number of people staying on the roads is alarming and poses a threat to the safety of residents in the metropolis,” he stated.
In the same event, Wike also disclosed his decision to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of certain plots of land previously allocated to German construction company, Julius Berger, in the Katampe area.
The ceremony, which was attended by high-ranking judicial officials including the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, marked the commencement of the construction of 40 new housing units for judges in the FCT.
Wike noted that 70% of the funds required for the project had already been released, following approval by the Federal Executive Council.
The project, he said, would see the construction of 40 housing units, with 20 allocated to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and 10 to the Court of Appeal.
