Abuja, Nigeria – The federal government has begun disbursing the new minimum wage to civil servants on its payroll, with payments starting on Thursday, September 26.
This development was confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, during an interview.
Mokwa assured that federal employees will start receiving alerts reflecting their new salary payments from today.
This comes just two days after the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC) announced that the implementation of the revised minimum wage would officially begin in July 2024.
NSIWC Chairman, Ekpo Nta, made this disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja, stating that the July commencement date aligns with the President’s approval of the new wage bill following its passage by the National Assembly.
The confirmation of early payments has been met with positive reactions from civil servants, who are eager to benefit from the newly approved salary structure.
