Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has announced its readiness to receive and reintegrate Nigerians facing deportation from the United States following President Donald Trump’s renewed crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Speaking with newsmen, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed that approximately 3,690 Nigerians are affected by the deportation order. He assured that the government is fully prepared to assist returnees in resettling and reuniting with their families.

As part of its efforts to support deportees, the Federal Government has secured a facility at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to provide treatment for those experiencing mental fatigue and depression.

“Well, it’s our responsibility to manage our migration policies and, of course, our borders. We’ll do what we need to do,” Tunji-Ojo stated. “We’re a responsible government and understand our duties. Rest assured, we will not shy away from them.”

The minister further disclosed that the newly established support center at the Lagos airport was set up in collaboration with the British Council and was commissioned in December. The facility aims to provide care and psychological support to deportees as they transition back into Nigerian society.

“We want them to know that Nigeria is a country that cares,” he added. “We need renewed hope built on humanity and compassion.”

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to protecting Nigerians, both at home and abroad, and will take necessary steps to restore and support affected individuals.
