Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government is set to unveil a new employment initiative, the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), aimed at creating 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs annually.

This announcement was made by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, during an event organized by the ministry on Friday.

Onyejeocha noted that the programme is part of the ministry’s comprehensive strategy to tackle unemployment and revitalize the nation’s economy through targeted job creation and empowerment initiatives.

“The LEEP Digital Nomads pillar will nurture the talents of our significant youth population, enhancing their digital literacy and equipping them with the skills to access revenue streams from the global job market,” Onyejeocha stated.

The minister explained that the programme includes a broad spectrum of interventions, such as the LEEP Vocational and Entrepreneurship Programme, which focuses on industrial and cottage-relevant skills training to boost employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Onyejeocha added, “We will upgrade and expand our National Electronic Labour Exchange platform to expedite automated employment recruitment processes for all types of jobs across the country. This is in response to the growing demand for learning spaces, apprenticeships, production hubs, and business incubators.”

She emphasized that the LEEP initiative is part of ongoing efforts to provide sustainable employment solutions and create a positive impact on the nation’s economy. The programme is expected to be launched before the end of October.
