Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Former Rivers State Governor and PDP presidential aspirant, Dr. Peter Odili, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for resisting alleged attempts by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to dominate Rivers State politically.
Speaking during a Christmas celebration hosted by the Odili family in honor of Governor Fubara and his family, Dr. Odili praised Fubara’s leadership and courage in confronting what he described as an unnecessary political conflict. He stated that the governor’s actions prevented the state from being turned into a “private estate.”
Odili’s Remarks
Odili recounted the events of October 2023, when Governor Fubara faced a significant political challenge that threatened the stability of the state. According to him, Fubara’s firm resolve ensured the protection of Rivers State’s autonomy and improved governance.
“With assuring fortitude, Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the state as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance, and restored happiness among civil servants and citizens alike,” Odili stated.
He lauded Fubara for his leadership qualities, describing him as a symbol of resilience and progress for the state.
In his response, Governor Fubara attributed his success to divine intervention, emphasizing that God played a significant role in overcoming the political crisis. He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Rivers State residents.
“My strength is drawn from every one of you. You gave me the encouragement; you do the work for me. So why won’t I stand up for you?” Fubara said.
The governor assured residents of a brighter future for Rivers State, vowing to maintain good governance and ensure progress in the coming years.
“We believe strongly that the ultimate game-changer, the ultimate liberator, and the ultimate fighter still remains God Almighty. And because we have Him on our side, victory is assured,” Fubara added.
Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, also praised Fubara’s leadership, recalling how the political crisis affected the Assembly. He credited the governor’s encouragement for emboldening him and other lawmakers to stand for the truth.
Justice Simeon Amadi, Chief Judge of Rivers State, noted that the political crisis initially cast doubt on Fubara’s tenure and his own position. However, he described the resolution of the conflict as a turning point for the state.
Former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, applauded Fubara’s ability to blend his leadership style with the traits of Dr. Odili, steering the state towards progress.
The event, hosted by Dr. Odili and his family, was described as a family reunion to celebrate Governor Fubara’s leadership.
