Fubara stated that despite offering the defected lawmakers ample time to reconsider their stance, their disqualification remains “final and irreversible.” He criticized their allegiance to former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with whom Fubara has been engaged in a protracted political conflict.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the N1.1 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, reiterating his administration’s commitment to advancing the state’s development.
The governor appended his signature to the budget on Thursday, January 2, 2025, a week after its submission to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State House of Assembly. In his remarks, Fubara commended the Assembly for the swift passage of the bill, describing their efforts as commendable.
He also asserted that the Assembly under Oko-Jumbo’s leadership remains the only legitimate legislative body in the state. The governor dismissed the recognition of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring their positions vacant.
The governor stated that despite offering the defected lawmakers ample time to reconsider their stance, their disqualification remains “final and irreversible.” He criticized their allegiance to former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with whom Fubara has been engaged in a protracted political conflict.
“No governor in Nigeria has endured the level of disrespect I have faced,” Fubara remarked, emphasizing his determination to prioritize the state’s progress over political distractions.
The 2025 budget, he added, is designed to fund the state’s programs and initiatives through December 31, 2025, and comprises 12 sections aimed at fostering growth and development.
