The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has suspended former Governor Gabriel Suswam and four other senior members for alleged insubordination and anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced in a statement by Bemgba Iortyom, the party’s Benue spokesperson, on Thursday.
The suspended individuals include:
- Gabriel Suswam, a current senator and former governor
- Terngu Tsegba, former Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly
- Richard Gbande, a former federal lawmaker
- Terseer Tsumba, former Speaker
- Nicholas Ada, a professor
The party had earlier summoned these members to answer allegations including the diversion of campaign funds from the 2023 elections, factionalism, thuggery, and publishing internal disputes. Suswam was specifically accused of acting as a spokesperson for APC Governor Hyacinth Alia, undermining the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Engr. Titus Uba, during ongoing election disputes.
The statement noted that the affected members failed to appear before the State Working Committee (SWC) and instead publicly criticized the party.
This behavior was deemed a violation of the PDP’s constitution, leading to their one-month suspension and a requirement to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee at a later date.
The PDP has urged its members to remain loyal and support the party’s leadership as it navigates these challenges and works towards strengthening the organization.
