Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, the Labour Party representative for Isialangwa North and South Federal Constituency, has distributed cassava stems, yams, and other seedlings to his constituents to promote agriculture and self-sufficiency.
This initiative marks the celebration of his first anniversary in office.
Announcing the project on his verified Facebook page, Onwusibe highlighted his commitment to encouraging his constituents to return to farming. The distribution event took place at the Amassa Ntigha Mini Stadium, a facility built by Onwusibe himself.
“Today, at the Amassa Ntigha Mini Stadium, we trained more than 600 constituents from Umuoha, Ngwa Ukwu, and Ntigha wards of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government,” Onwusibe stated. “We trained them on modern agricultural practices and provided improved seedlings including palm, tomatoes, pepper, okra, cucumber, maize, yam, and cassava stems. Additionally, participants received fertilizers.”
The seedlings and stems, sourced from outside the constituency, aim to enhance local agricultural practices and yields. Onwusibe emphasized the program’s goal of encouraging the domestication of these improved varieties within the constituency.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Onwusibe noted the positive reception from participants. “By my assessment, it was successful and the participants are happy. Our target is to reach 2,000 participants in Isiala Ngwa North and South Local Governments,” he added.
