Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has revealed an increase in the minimum wage for workers in the state since January.
Speaking at a state function, the governor disclosed that workers have been enjoying an additional N35,000 wage allowance, effectively doubling their minimum wage to N70,000.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that this initiative aims to support citizens during difficult times, ensuring they are not left to fend for themselves. He further stated that the state government is committed to implementing a new minimum wage scheme.
In addition to the wage increment, the governor announced plans to distribute food items to 500,000 households in the state through unions and local governments.
He highlighted the ‘Ounje Eko’ initiative, which offers discounted food items through 59 makeshift markets established across the local government areas, operating on Sundays.
The intervention measures come amidst economic challenges, demonstrating the government’s dedication to supporting its citizens during these trying times.
