Kano, Nigeria – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has undertaken a major cabinet reshuffle, removing the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, and five commissioners.
The shake-up, announced by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, aims to enhance administrative efficiency and improve governance in the state.
In a statement, Governor Yusuf described the changes as a “pragmatic political realignment” to ensure optimum performance and deliver greater democratic dividends to the people of Kano State.
Officials Removed
Among those affected are the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose office has been scrapped, and SSG Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, reportedly dropped due to health concerns. Additionally, the Governor relieved five commissioners of their duties, including:
- Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, Commissioner for Finance
- Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism
- Baba Halilu Dantiye, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs
- Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Commissioner for Special Duties
- Abbas Sani Abbas, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development
The Governor has directed the Chief of Staff and the five removed commissioners to report to the Governor’s office for potential reassignment.
Reassigned and Retained Officials
Several commissioners were reassigned to new portfolios. Notable changes include:
- Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, shifted from Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
- Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.
- Hon. Amina Abdullahi, reassigned from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Women, Children, and Disabled Affairs.
Other reassignments include commissioners for Environment, Project Monitoring, Transport, Education, Water Resources, and Tourism.
Meanwhile, several commissioners retained their current positions, including:
- Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice)
- Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Commissioner for Agriculture)
- Dr. Abubakar Labaran (Commissioner for Health)
- Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar (Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning)
- Engr. Marwan Ahmad (Commissioner for Works and Housing)
