Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially calling it quits after two years of marriage. Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court documents obtained by the BBC.
The celebrity couple, affectionately known as “Bennifer,” first tied the knot in a low-key Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a more lavish celebration in Georgia the following month. Their romance initially sparked nearly two decades ago when they met on the set of the 2003 film Gigli. Although they were originally set to marry in 2003, they called off their engagement in early 2004, only to rekindle their relationship years later.
In 2022, Lopez expressed her joy over their reunion, stating, “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”
According to the court filing, Lopez or her attorney must serve Affleck with a copy of her divorce petition. While Lopez had legally changed her last name to Affleck, her petition did not include details of any prenuptial agreement.
The court documents indicate that both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, are required to disclose their financial information, including income, expenses, properties, and debts, within the next 60 days. Failure to do so could lead to court-imposed penalties.
Rumors about their relationship have circulated for months, fueled by reports of their $65 million Beverly Hills mansion being listed for sale and sightings of the pair without their wedding rings.
Affleck, a two-time Oscar winner, was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children. Lopez, widely known as J.Lo, has been married four times, most recently to singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins. She was also previously engaged to former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
Representatives for Lopez and Affleck have yet to comment on the news.
